Title : The next generation cancer treatments - the role of genomics and AI

Abstract:

The discussion will be on optimum utilization of AI and genomics in delivering personalized treatments inRadiationOncology for better treatment outcome. Artificial Intellignce , Machine learing and Deep learning will bediscussedand the future of artificial intelligence in radiation oncology. AI can be used to predict a patient's responsetoradiation therapy by analyzing imaging and clinical data. This information can be used to adapt treatment plansinreal-time, ensuring that patients receive the most effective and tailored care throughout their treatment course.AIcan help enhance quality assurance processes in radiation therapy by automating the verification of treatmentplansand the monitoring of treatment delivery. This reduces the risk of errors and ensures that treatments adheretosafety standards. AI-powered image analysis can improve the accuracy of tumor localization and patient positioningduring treatment. AI can also assist in real-time tracking of organ motion, enabling more preciseandtargetedradiation delivery. Other important applications like Dose Monitoring and Reporting, Radiomics , PredictiveModeling and Automated Contouring will be discussed.

The main hurdle for better treatments in radiation oncology is tumour response to the given prescribeddoseineachindividual due to various factors. Out of so many factors, genetic alterations and treatment resistancetumoursareconsidered the most important ones to consider for better treatment management. Next generationsequencehasbeen developed for detection of DNA-based alterations epigenome, transcriptome or RNAomemolecularaberrations. Individual human genome can now be sequenced in less than 2 weeks. known oncogenic functioncanalso be identified with NGS. Depending on the molecular profile of their tumors it is possible toprospectivelyidentify patients who are more likely to benefit from radiotherapy. Personalized radiotherapy couldbeachievedbyestablishing biomarkers which can classify radio sensitive and resistant tumors before initiation of treatment.Next-generation sequencing (NGS)- Advantages and applications and how NGS can change the radiotherapywill bediscussed. Combination of AI and ML with genomics will be discussed . AI and ML is to improve our understandingof hidden patterns in large and complex genomics data sets. AI and genome together can influence thetreatmentsby identifying the genetic disorders, identifying primary kind of cancer etc.

Keywords: Radiation oncology, NGS, Biomarkers, Personalized treatments, AI, ML.
