Title : System error in cancer research
Abstract:
Undoubtedly, cancer refers to the group called “diseases of civilization”. Over the last 100 years, cancer has become a real nightmare for humanity. Despite having the tremendous world scientific and financial resources, successes in the cancer research and treatment, the cancer incidence and mortality are growing worldwide with an extremely unfavourable prognosis. The basis of “diseases of civilization” is chronic stress. A person has found himself in such mental state as a modern civilization model has been developing.
Chronic stress and its extensive damaging effect on the body are well-known: ischemia, inflammation, oxidative-nitrosative stress, etc. They trigger “diseases of civilization”, which in combination with the DNA damages cells and antitumor immunity inhibition are directly related to the pathogenesis of cancer. In a state of chronic stress, the human body is able to develop cancer without exogenous carcinogens.
Cancer is a genetic disease, however currently there are no methods of successful correction of genetic defects, that caused cancer. They are associated with the hope of cancer control. Simultaneously, clinical oncology is focused on the destruction of cancer cells (surgery, chemo-, radiotherapy). Obviously, the modern look of scientific and clinical oncology is concentrated exclusively on genes, molecules, cells. This is precisely the system error in cancer research.
Let us explain. There are 8 biological levels of organization of living matter: 1-molecular-genetic, 2-cellular, 3-tissue, 4-organ, 5-organismal, 6-population, 7-biogenocynotic, 8-biospheric. The main studies of the reason of cancer are carried out on the 1 level, which is a border between living and inanimate, and at the 2 level, where a cell is a structural-functional unit of living. Nevertheless, a holistic vision of a cancer patient is possible only from the 5-organismal level in order to “be treating the person and not the disease” as Hippocrates bequeathed.
It’s impossible to understand the organismal level, if not to see the major integral, control system in the body - the nervous system, specifically, the central nervous system, the higher nervous activity. It is simply impossible to see a cancer patient from the genes, molecules and cells. The same thing is studying broken bricks in detail, while thinking that you are studying a huge building with all life support systems, apartments, residents, etc.
Currently, scientific oncology cannot escape beyond the cell study due to the lack of exact methods for measuring the state of the nervous system. ?aradoxically, there is a concept of chronic stress, but there is no method of its accurate measurement (until recently). It is crucial to repeat that the reason of system error in cancer research is the focus on thinking about molecular-genetic and cellular processes. This explains the past, current and future failures in the creation of seemingly promising antitumor drugs and therapeutic vaccines.
Our clinical experience shows that serious success in managing the cancer process should be expected from a systemic approach, effective impact on the two main regulatory systems of the body - the nervous and immune, but not only from the use of any cancer drugs.
